Carles Roch-Cunill

Carles’ background is experimental solid state physics. He knows how to formulate a question, set up an experiment, and how to interpret data for insight into the original question. Coincidentally, that is exactly what tester engineers are supposed to do as part of software development. If you remember your lessons in scientific method, you will have a good idea of Carles’ approach to testing.

Carles’ career includes ten years in the research departments of several institutions: Universitat de Barcelona , Catalonia; Centre national de la recherche scientifique (Grenoble), France; Simon Fraser University (Burnaby), Canada. Carles developed and used his own software programs as part of his research programs. During the dot-boom year, Carles moved to the private sector and worked as a developer, with some testing and project management in the mix. In 2004, Carles moved into formal software testing managing the test group at Sunaptic, a successful consulting firm specialized in Business Integration using MS technologies. Carles continued his test management work at Visiphor Corporation, a developer of CRM and image recognition software for justice and law enforcement. Carles developed his own "QC/QA 101 course" and delivered it with great success to customers developing their quality programs. In 2008, Carles joined McKesson Medical Imaging Group as the Performance Test team lead.

Carles loves to teach and share his experiences in testing. He is passionate about the role of testing in the software development process to ensure a quality product. Carles’ professional motto is "Everyone is responsible for quality." In testing, he would like to see more test engineers apply scientific method: hypothesize, design tests, test, analyze data, repeat as necessary.

Carles holds PhD, MSc, BSc, and BA degrees. He speaks four languages well and three more badly.
