May 31, 2012: "Selenium in the real world (or where are the tests and how do I run them?)"
Meeting Start Time: 6:45pm
Presenter: Iain Rose, Software Engineer in Test, xMatters
Location: Room 408 in Building NE1 - BCIT Burnaby Campus, 3700 Willingdon Ave, Burnaby (Directions)
Abstract:
Selenium is an open source tool that automates browsers, that's it. It's not a test framework, it's not a build tool, it's not a continuous integration tool. It just automates browsers.
In this session we will:
- Learn how to combine Selenium with other open source tools to create a robust test automation framework that can add value to your testing process
- Demonstrate the page object model and show how keeping our tests DRY will reduce your maintenance effort.
- Demonstrate the use of implicit & explicit waits in Selenium 2 (Webdriver) to reduce test flakiness
- Use a build tool to run the tests in parallel
- Integrate with Jenkins to make our first steps towards continuous integration.
About Iain Rose:
Iain is a Software Engineer in Test at xMatters focussing on test automation with the Webdriver API of Selenium 2. Iain has over a decades worth of experience in testing and previously was the CEO & Founder of rallyQA Software Testing. http://www.xmatters.com
